Sunday Soul – Special Edition: Music To Roll With

Year 15 – Mix 1 – Music for the week of June 1st 2018

Oh hey.

I bet you’re surprised to discover there’s a new mix here, aren’t you? Well, it’s been a long time hasn’t it? I set Sunday Soul aside a few years ago and began to focus on playing 100% live again. I needed the time and the resources to learn, and reconnect and I did it. I wrote a three hour set, and toured it, and recorded it. It’s been totally amazing. You can actually watch a film about it all over at the new web site http://theurgencyofchange.com
The password to watch is FALLINLOVENOTINLINE
I hope you love it.

While you’re there, consider making your pre order of my new LP on vinyl.
I’ve been releasing physical objects only, 12″ singles, CDs and DVDs and not taking my inspiration from the digital world at all anymore. I’ve been missing you so much, and just feeling so homesick at home that I got tired of feeding the beast of everyone being alone together, and rather than recede into the static of endless youtube and instagram,I wanted to demonstrate that life is better when we are together, looking up, and out into the world.

So that’s what I’m doing these days. This recording is a special way of saying hi, and letting you know that I can (sort of) still mix. Vinyl and digital are combined here for fun and love and motion. I am selecting a few recent releases, but mostly it is all classics and music to light your heart on fire and get you skating backward, feeling the wind in your hair, and feeling truly free. Yeah… like that.

Also, if it isn’t immediately apparent here, in case you miss me, there is a little menu button here on this page where you can open up a ton of archives with a couple of live mixes, and a lot of playlists to enjoy. You aren’t just limited to what’s on the front page. There’s actually quite a lot here for you.

I’m in a very different place from when I began seeking a path with Sunday Soul more than 15 years ago. It all started at the end of a few things, and I was seeking a way to rediscover what I really wanted to do, and what there might be for me in this world. I invited people over and we talked at first, and they described their experiences… what people might call a podcast now, but I was just transmitting to anyone who would listen. This gave way to playing music, and then it became a love letter that I needed to offer up every single Sunday without fail. There were beautiful posters, hours and hours of music, and (I hope) absorbing essays and laughter and love and community. It was really something special and it saved my soul in so many ways.

So naturally after a few years off I missed you. I missed this. And so here’s a little mix I made for some friends who have undertaken roller skating recently, and I’m all for it.

This isn’t the best mix I’ve ever done. There are many flaws. But that’s my point in essence. Perfectionism is a state of fear, and fear is for the birds baby. So get out your records, slip into your leg warmers, open the windows, and lets roll…

I really do love you with all of my heart. I always have, and I’m sure I always will.

You can’t kill love. Love always wins. It saves the day, changes the world, moves mountains.
If it doesn’t, then that wasn’t love, was it? Get down with your bad self.

LOVE,
Sunshine

Buy this music if you love it. Buy it on vinyl. Play it loud. I am curating something personal for the people I love who take the time to listen. If you have feelings and would like to be stricken from the record here, please let me know and I’d be glad to never play your music here again. I’ve been mad about love before, and I totally understand.

May the stars above you shimmer and shine, guiding your heart always, all of the time. May they guide you sweetly, all the way home. And may all your sundays have soul.
